Other Special Elections
The Dade County Democratic Committee has helped establish working partnerships with other Democratic committees across north Georgia. Because of this, we keep track of and assist whenever possible Democrats running in those counties, particularly in special elections.
On August 26th, a special election was held for State Senate District 21, which lies in eastern Cherokee County, and the very northernmost part of Fulton County. Since Cherokee County is part of the 11th and 7th Congressional Districts, both of which are “north Georgia,” this election is of interest to us.
The results of that election led to Democrat Debra Shigley being forced to a runoff against Republican Hedge Fund Manager Jason Dickerson after five other Republican candidates were eliminated:.
Debra Shigley (Dem) 8,438 votes (39.51%) Jason Dickerson (Rep) 3,707 votes (17.36%)
This district was 30D-70R in November’s presidential election, so Debra has already exceeded that. Now, we need to make sure her vote comes back out on September 23rd. Debra is going to need financial support to do that. Her donation page is here. If you want to make phone calls on Debra’s behalf, you can sign up for those here.
