Other Local Races
Besides the state house, senate, and North Dade School Board races in which we have a candidate, there are three local races in which we do not. We made extensive attempts to find candidates for each local race this year, and at one time, we had three of the four with a prospective candidate, but in the end, for good reasons, the other prospective candidates bowed out. These races will NOT show up on the Democratic Primary ballot since we do not have a candidate in them.
There will also be non-partisan Judicial races on the ballot. These appear on BOTH party ballots. Most of them are unopposed.
If anyone wishes to run for local office in the future, please contact our Chair at dadedemocrat@gmail.com.
All county voters vote on all of these races; the candidates have to live within the district.
District 1 (North Dade, in the valley north of the Bank of Dade)
Commissioner
The District 1 incumbent was appointed a few years ago upon the death of the last elected Commissioner. That appointee had no desire to run for re-election, so this is an open seat. There are five Republican candidates.
Jane Dixon
Patrick Hickey
Gene McBryar
Robby Ryan
Chris Wade
Because of the number of candidates, this race will likely have a runoff in June. The Dade County Democratic Committee will make no official endorsements or recommendations in this Republican primary.
District 2 (Sand Mountain)
Neither of the incumbents on the Commission and School boards has a challenger from either party this year. They are both therefore re-elected to new, four-year terms starting next year. Jennifer Hartline is the District 2 School Board member, and Phillip Hartline is the District 2 Commissioner.
